Frequently Asked Questions
Does It Hurt?
When comparing the average acupuncture needle diameter to a western medical injection needle (commonly used to withdraw blood), you would see that acupuncture needles are approximately 10 times smaller than the average injection needles. For a different perspective, acupuncture needle diameters are only 2 times the size of the average human hair. A smaller diameter needle allows the practitioner to insert needles during a treatment with less likelihood of triggering a pain sensation.
Every patients experience is different. We do our best as practitioners, but it is still possible that patients may experience bruising, bleeding, needle site pain and sensation, or needle fainting.
Patients should inform the practitioner if any discomfort arises.
What Are Common Conditions Treated By Acupuncture?
Anxiety, Autoimmune, Depression, Digestive Disorders, Fatigue, Gynaecology Disorders – (Fertility, Menstrual disorders, Menopause, etc.), Headaches, Insomnia, Pain, Trauma or Sports related injuries (after Western medical assessment), Weight loss.

If you have insurance coverage for acupuncture, you will be able to submit your receipts. The total amount covered will be determined by your plan.
How Many Treatments Will I Require?
As every person and condition is different, the frequency and total treatments required will also vary. In general, chronic (long term issues) will require more treatments than acute (short term issues).
Major factors affecting recovery will be diet and lifestyle.
What Type of Needles Do you Use?
We only use quality, acupuncture-specific German and Japanese stainless steel needles. All needles come in individual sterile packages and are disposable, one time use.

Types of Treatments:
Note: Acupuncture treatments may include one or more of the modalities listed below
Cupping:
Modern day cupping is typically done using glass or silicone cups. A vacuum generated in the cup creates suction, drawing the skin and surface muscle layers into it.
Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is commonly practiced together with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture treatments influence the body by inserting thin needles into specific points along the body, called acupoints.
Microneedling - Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)
By using a Health Canada approved microneedling device (the eDermaStamp®) minimally invasive precision micro-injuries of the epidermis and dermis are preformed, without causing open wounds or ablative damage. The punctured channels close after a short time and these micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound healing cascade, which induces an increased collagen production in the treated skin. The eDermaStamp® triggers the construction of new tissue by stimulating healthy cell regeneration in precision-targeted areas that show the signs of aging. It effectively reduces wrinkles, tightens and thickens the skin, and – perhaps most impressively – fills and smooths most scars.

Gua Sha:
Like acupuncture this is a very old technique. A smooth-edged tool, such as pieces of honed jade or buffalo horn are pressed and stroked on a lubricated region of the body. Press-stroking is to be performed sequentially line by line, in one direction, until a reddish or purple mark appears on the skin. This is called “raising the sha”.
Diet and Nutritional Recommendations:
Recommendations on foods, meals and how to prepare them based on your TCM diagnosis. More information here
Herbal Formulas/Medicine:
Combined with dietary advice and acupuncture, Chinese herbal formulas typically help you continue your treatment beyond the clinic. Herbal formulas are especially applicable to digestive disorders, menstrual disorders, stress and depression.
Formulas are selected by your practitioner for your specific symptoms and TCM diagnosis.
